Re: To our folks in Minneapolis

To offer one answer to Yuna's question about what we can do - I don't often agree with David Brooks of the NY TImes - but today (?) he has an article with clearly articulated proposals for a way forward: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/04/opinion/united-states-reparations.html If nothing else, it's ...

Re: To our folks in Minneapolis

Yuna has good points and again distracting. What were we talking about? ;-) Pubs response valid but can be better presented by stating that change needs to come from within the system. The problem is that folks do not want to wait for the system to change, the impatience factor causes issues. But w...

I want to get back to YAH's comment on judges and his comment of "tyranny of the majority was supposed to be checked by the judiciary's setup" ....In a similar vein, the tyranny of the majority was supposed to be checked by the judiciary's setup where judges are appointed for life (or for long inte...

Re: Nationwide Civil Unrest

While we're talking about identifying the problems - it occurs to me that another issue that's been growing in the back of people's minds is the notion that the system is rigged against the "little people". Notions like the idea that our vote doesn't matter, because the elections are rigged (because...

Re: Nationwide Civil Unrest

In the incident in Minneapolist in which Mr. Floyd died, there were a number of video cameras along the street, capturing the events (not sure they've release any bodycam or cruiser video). And still - prosecutors were not going to charge any of the four, and they have still only charged one of the...

Re: The Poor Tweeter in Chief

I am not nor been a member of any political party, but I lean libertarian. If you noticed, i have openly criticized every POTUS since the formation of this board (and before). I detest the stranglehold of Illinois that the Chicago Democrats have on the state. You would have fun in WI - IIRC, the Re...

Re: Nationwide Civil Unrest

I think the most immediate issue here is the prevalence of police misconduct - I think I read somewhere that chances of a black male dying at the hands of the police were as good as those of any american dying in a motorcycle accident, twice as likely as those of a white male. Last time this was an ...

Tolerance of criminal acts = New York Mayor and Governor...Both are laying down. Soon, there will be no more stores to loot. Let's have zero law and order. Good luck New York. Tolerance of LE abuse - a crowd at Lafayette Park in DC, peacefully assembled, was dispersed with tear gas half an hour bef...

Re: Nationwide Civil Unrest

As an example of the attitude that I would expect to see - remember the scene from the protests at Tiananmen Square, where some guy stood in front of a tank - and the tank stopped? (It then tried to drive around the guy, who would move to again stand in front of it). For all the criticism that China...

So, how, precisely, do you propse exterminating them? They outnumber the police. The Russians held off the outnumbered Nazi Army with half full vodka bottles and rags. They're using guerilla tactics, similar to the ones used by Colonial militias in the War for Independence. Peaceful protests during...

Re: To our folks in Minneapolis

I'm not consoling any of this! It's all very tragic! There are so many things that happened here. Leading to the stupidity of rioting! What ever happen to sit ins? I guess we're missing someone with the moral authority of Ghandi, or MLK, to keep things peaceful :-(. I was reading someone's analysis...
