Vasectomy
So I recently scheduled appointment with urologist to consult about a vasectomy as I've been thinking about getting one in the next year or so. Anyone had any experience, good or bad? I've discussed with a few friends that had the procedure and they mentioned they only had pain first few days and first climax was excruciating. Any thoughts on this?

Quick and usually painless... although the sight and smell of smoke coming from that area during the procedure can be a bit disconcerting...

Lucky for you that the Dr. that did mine is long in a hole. What a dick, he was in a hurry to get to the golf course and couldn't believe it hurt that bad. You know how a dentist lets the numbing agent work it's way in? Not that prick. A little poke, then slash!
America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system but too early to shoot the bastards.

Mine was 18 years ago last month. Female doctor and nurse. Almost the best $500 I ever spent. Did on a Friday so I could rest the w/e, gave me Vicodin for pain. When I went back to test if it took, they gave a dirty mag and a jar.

Re: Vasectomy
I went in 10 years ago but the Dr talked me out of it because I was to young. Now in my 50's I have thought about it but since I see no relationships in my near future I doubt I will be without protection and needing the V.

Mine was painless, and the DR and Nurse were very cool.

Very similar experience to mine!! Do it when March madness starts and you can watch basketball all weekend. Schedule it now cause tons of other guys have the same idea. Follow Dr orders after, dont think you feel ok and go and do whatever...you can swell up like crazy! Re: Vasectomy
Plan would be to take at least 6 days off work for recuperating. Thinking of asking about availability of day after Christmas since I have vacation til after New Years. Insurance covers part of cost so that helps a bit and that late in the year I should be close to my out of pocket maximum for the year. It seems the urologist is a male doctor in his late 40s or early 50s.
Rubbers have just never been friendly to me and I generally have to take them off to finish. Current SO has had some issues with pill and other contraception and seems to go back and forth about whether or not she wants kids. I have never had any desire to have kids of my own so to me it just seems to be a no brainer and I actually see it as permanent prevention.

Had mine about 25 years ago under local anesthetic. Only post op problem I had was I almost froze my ***** off with the ice packs. Had it in the morning and mowed the lawn (walking mower) in the afternoon.

Had mine about 20 years ago. I remember they gave me a little apparatus to wear to support my sac. Kinda seemed like I was wearing a little push-up bra for my nuts.
I still wear it.

Re: Vasectomy
Had mine 35 years ago. I had the procedure done on a Friday and was back to work on Monday. Laid up with ice bags during the weekend following the Friday surgery. I remember riding in the car was difficult if there were bumps in the road. Not sure how they do the follow up today but I had to take 3 samples in the following 6 weeks. It was a bit embarrassing to hand the lady at the window in the Dr Office my sample. Glad I had the procedure. Good luck.

Re: Vasectomy
Redneck Vasectomy
After having their 11th child, an Alabama couple decided that was enough, as they could not afford a larger bed. So the husband went to his veterinarian and told him that he and his cousin didn't want to have any more children.
The doctor told him that there was a procedure called a vasectomy that could fix the problem but that it was expensive. A less costly alternative, said the doctor, was to go home, get a cherry bomb (fireworks are legal in Alabama), light it, put it in a beer can, then hold the can up to his ear and count to 10.
The Alabamian said to the doctor, "I may not be the smartest man in the world, but I don't see how putting a cherry bomb in a beer can next to my ear is going to help me".
"Trust me," said the doctor.
So the man went home, lit a cherry bomb and put it in a beer can. He held the can up to his ear and began to count:
"1"
"2"
"3"
"4"
"5"
At which point he paused, placed the beer can between his legs, an resumed counting on his other hand.
This procedure also works in Kentucky, Mississippi, and West Virginia.

Re: Vasectomy
I had mine on a Friday and for the most part, sat around with frozen veggies on my crotch. Got along good until that Sunday the S.O decided to suck it off and it hurt like hell upon arrival. All after that one were good but probably too soon for the first time.

Re: Vasectomy
Had mine about 7 years ago, then got divorced the following year. When I started dating again, I found that women liked that I had no swimmers, and were all in to go Babybackribs after the appropriate checks were completed. Knowing that you can't procreate takes a lot of the stress out of "casual" sex. That said, mine was pretty painless until about a day afterward. I was taking Tylenol Codeine, keeping an ice pack on my nether region, and wearing tighty whities, but it still ached for a while. We waited a week or so before trying sex, and it seemed fine at that point. Short term pain for long term gain.

Re: Vasectomy
Had my consultation today, scheduled procedure for day after Christmas. Dr gave me a prescription for one Valium day of in case I get nervous or just don't wanna remember much. Last time I took Valium was for three wisdom teeth to be removed last summer and I lost 8 hrs in middle of the day so kinda thinking I'll go for it and hope experience goes well. I should have six days for recovery afterwards before returning to work and he says that should be sufficient healing time if no complications.
