Crypto Currency
Anyone into dealing with and investing in this stuff? I mean, I know it's not new anymore, and fluctuation rates are sometimes extreme, but...
What if you had an opportunity to be in, not ground floor, but the next boom? Possibly. I'm kinda on the fence whether or not it's worth while, but I'm expecting some interesting developments and would love to get someone who's more experienced with this then I am. Verification is always a wonderful thing.

The short story: The boom is over. All of the major financial institutions plus other big corps are working on their own implementations of blockchain technology. Crypto-currencies not backed by either a government or big institution will become obsolete.

Re: Crypto Currency
The blockchajn tech makes great sense. If you got in at the front of the boom, and cashed out, you made a big profit margin.
Now, I couldn't find a single business locally that accepts Bitcoin.
I have what I call my Cheeseburger Theory on economics - the value of my trade needs to meet or exceed my expected cheeseburger acquisition. In this scenario, Bitcoin = 0 cheeseburgers. Hence zero value.

Re: Crypto Currency
I get where you two are coming from, I really asked because I've recently become privy to a plan to drive the price of a particular currency up, that actually seems possible to pull off, not only because it's not a PnD, but because the people involved in scheme don't even know it's in place, just that they plan on making as much as possible off the investment while everyone else does the work, unknowingly.
And to counter your cheeseburger theory of economics, as a member of the bay area, I have eaten at and worked for at least 1 restaurant that accepted bitcoin.

I have advice from a couple of perspectives. First, if you are asking us about crypto-currencies and you’ve become privy to this plan, I would be be very, very, very careful that you are not the mark in this scheme. What little you’ve said sets off alarm sirens and bells and klaxons that there are shenanigans afoot.incessusmortuus wrote: ↑Wed Jul 18, 2018 9:22 amI get where you two are coming from, I really asked because I've recently become privy to a plan to drive the price of a particular currency up, that actually seems possible to pull off, not only because it's not a PnD, but because the people involved in scheme don't even know it's in place, just that they plan on making as much as possible off the investment while everyone else does the work, unknowingly.

Under normal circumstances I’m not remotely interested in crypto-currency as an investment vehicle.
But, when people got that easy money sure thing look in their eyes it’s nearly impossible to wave them off. So you do you, brother. Good luck!

Yeeeeeeeaaaaaah. It's not so much easy money like, let's all get in on this, come on! It's more of a, _________ is what their plan looks to be, I cannot possibly invest or otherwise profit off of this, other than the possibility of it being information that's worth something. If the information isn't worth anything, I have exactly what I had before being given the information, which is nothing. If the information is worth something, then yay, I have something that someone might wanna buy. The major issue being that I don't know jack diddly about Crypto. So I wanted to get opinions. Shenanigans are definitely afoot, but what kind and how many, that's the question.JoeNegative wrote: ↑Wed Jul 18, 2018 3:05 pm

In a nutshell, crypto-currency uses what is called a distributed ledger to track who possesses what amount of the currency at any given moment in time. That’s about it.

Re: Crypto Currency
This is a very interesting question. It's hard to predict what will happen when the next boom happens. So you need to look for a reliable expert. In today's world, it's hard to trust anyone because everyone is ready to cheat for their own benefit. At https://hodlrate.com/, you can explore detailed, up-to-date information about cryptocurrency. I think HodlRate will help you find and compare the best accounts with an interest in cryptocurrency. All this is done so that users can develop their cryptocurrency faster. I wish you a good day.

Re: Crypto Currency
The issue with crypto in mind kind is that it has failed in every promise. It's not decentralized, it's not anonymous, it's not stable, it's not a store of value, it's not accessible, it's not durable, and now we understand the environmental impact of millions of computers wasting energy to perform transactions.
If there is no underlying value in it, it's just speculation and gambling.
