Keeping GBN Alive and Growing

The GBN is approaching the end of another month.

GBN operates on its donor base. Anyone purely profit-motivated is unlikely to keep the site in its current mode of operation.

It takes the users of the site to keep it running every month. The advertisers and other donors during the course of the year have permitted and encouraged me to keep it limping along.

I see the continued existence of the GBN hinging on several factors:

1. More help from the members to ATTRACT new and contributing members. When I say contribute, I mean both financial and informational contributions. The Midwest is a huge place, and we need more branches in the surrounding states. And we're expanding outside it's historical base.

2. Technical assistance and/or financing. The site needs a GOOD review system in place, but the estimated cost is $6,000 from the programmers I know to carry it off.

3. More advertising revenues. I know this is a sore spot for some, but there are few free resources out there. Well, those resources aren't "free" either, because someone is footing the bills, most likely the members and advertisers.

We need to raise $425 every month by the 20th of each month to keep going. That's $30 for a year for expanded access privileges from 15 members. Obviously we greatly appreciate Advanced Donors at $50, and Sustaining Donors at $100, too.

The information presented here at GBN is primarily for one purpose - trust development. I ask a pittance from each person using this site to help keep it alive for that information exchange. The game is changing “big brother” has a different agenda. It is always best when threatened to band together with like minds to overcome the suppression that threatens your Freedom. What GBN does is provide a special place for everyone to express their own beliefs without percicucion. So I finish my tale with one more question “Will you contibute?”

There are three areas of support that GBN would not exist without financial, continuing content and management of the forums (moderation). You have been a consistent and quality contributor to all three for many years and we greatly appreciate this and thank you for being a leader on the site.

For those that do not know how duties breakdown to keep GBN alive the position of Moderator is the key to things running smoothly and the site still being here. The select few that are offered and take on this duty keep the forums complaint and current with timely moderation of postings, enforcement of site policies and rules, member support and contributing content. They do this on a voluntary basis and have to be an authority and not just a member anymore.

All of our current Mods have taken on these responsibilities and still been some of the strongest financial contributors. Pub and I appreciate all of them and I hope the members do also.

7 days, and we still need 8 new members to help keep us ahead of the game. The fees paid this month were a definite ouch factor that's going to happen every September while we're open.

By far the largest month for expenses, not only the monthly costs but many annuals come due in September. Domain register, PO box rental, Dues for some of the site add-on features and a couple others.

At curent pace there will be 120 newly registered member this month so only 6% of them donating would help to reach the minimum needed.

My most cringe-worthy part of the day is first thing in the morning, when the leeches come out of hiding long enough to attempt verbal abuse for not getting everything for free any more.

Hey Pubs. I'm looking at jumping in at the Advanced membership. Is there anything extra with that, or am i just supporting at a higher level, which I'm happy to do?

What the donor levels mean.

Basic: Keeps the rent paid for the next month if 15 chip in
Advanced: We can go buy a pizza on the tip
Supporting: We can buy a pizza, have a drink, pay for some patches, and have a lap dance. One lapdance.

We spend between 3 to 5 hours a DAY on administrative functions to keep this place running smoothly. We're asking people to chip in 7 cents a day for the course of a year of access privileges.

If you get ONE piece of information here that kept you from walking into trouble - wasnt that alone worth knowing? Without new donors chipping in, and the continued support of existing donors, that comes to a halt.

C'mon, you scurvy bilge-rats! After I got demoted to Lookie-Loo, I ponied up for a berth. Then, after making good use of the info I found here, I even upgraded to a cabin. A drop in the bucket compared to what I'll spend on the hobby overall. Pubs and the rest of the XOs keep us out of the worst of the weather, the crow's nest is usually manned, and we keep on good terms with the ladies who choose to tag along. All in all, a pretty damned fine deal, especially at the basic requested contribution. Seriously, skip a couple of Starbucks for a couple of weeks, and you'll cover the cost. Or if you can follow YAG's stripper savings plan, I'm sure you could come up with quite a bit to cover some of the bills that keep the lights on and the hull patched.
