CHICAGO Illinois -- Lane Tech teacher cleared in prostitution case

Charges were dropped against a Lane Tech computer teacher arrested last month for allegedly keeping a place of prostitution.

Scott Carlson, 41, a teacher at the Chicago public school since 2002, was cleared Tuesday for renting a hotel room near Midway Airport that became the scene of an undercover prostitution sting, officials said.

DETROIT Michigan -- A man allegedly impersonating a Detroit police officer had all the right equipment -- a loaded gun, a badge and uniform -- but ran into trouble when he allegedly confronted an undercover officer.

The man was arrested at about 5 p.m. Wednesday after he approached an undercover Wayne County Sheriff's deputy in the area of Vernor and Oakdale on Detroit�s East Side, deputies said. The department�s Morality Unit was conducting a sting operation in response to prostitution complaints in the area.

JENNINGS Louisiana -- Every few months for the last four and a half years, someone driving the back roads here in Jefferson Davis Parish has come across a body.

The eight women found dead were all from Jefferson Davis Parish, were aged 17 to 30 and had succumbed to drugs and prostitution: clockwise from top left, Loretta Lynn C. Lewis, Ernestine D. Patterson, Kristen G. Lopez, Whitnei C. Dubois, Laconia S. Brown, Crystal Benoit Zeno, Brittney Gary and Necole J. Guillory.

They fit the same pattern: The bodies have been those of young women raised by extended families in the nearby towns of Lake Arthur and Jennings. At some point, the women lost their footing and succumbed to the undercurrent of drugs and prostitution that has been steadily eating away at the parish.

ELMWOOD PARK Illinois -- A Norridge man who owns a massage parlor in Elmwood Park and three of his employees were arrested Wednesday night after a two-month investigation into alleged prostitution at the establishment, Cook County sheriff's police said today.

Gianfranco Della-Santina, 35, has been charged with four counts of conducting massage without a license. Two employees -- Olga Purekhova, 23, of Chicago and Malgorzata Dziadana, 38, of Norridge -- also were charged with the massage, plus one count each of prostitution, according to a statement.

Police Target Craigslist

TINLEY PARK Illinois -- Two women have been charged with prostitution as a result of a Tinley Park undercover police investigation of prostitutes conducting business at local hotels with clients they meet on Craigslist, police said today.

Both women were arrested this month -- one on Thursday -- at the Wingate by Wyndham hotel on North Creek Drive near Interstate Highway 80 by an undercover detective posing as a customer. A team of investigators was also in a nearby room at the Wingate, where employees first alerted police they suspected prostitutes were using the hotel.

In the first arrest on Dec. 2, a detective met with Denise Devall, 44, in a room at the Wingate where the two made small talk while the detective sat on one bed, drinking a Miller Lite beer, and Devall reclined on the other.

The arrests were made at a local hotel. Police, posing as potential customers, contacted four women based on information about their services on the Internet. The women where charged with prostitution after meeting the undercover officer to perform a sexual act in exchange for money.
